Trade & Industry Committee

The Trade & Industry Committee, (TIC) is a sub-Committee mandated by the Executive Committee to address all issues related to trade and industry, with a view to aggregating them to a regionally agreed position. TIC Members are leading industry persons, drawn from each of the 5 EAC Countries, with a Chairman who is a member of the Executive Committee. The work of the TIC is supported by Technical Experts drawn from each of National Focal Points. The Trade Economist at EABC Secretariat acts as the Secretary to the Board.

TIC activities are largely focused on the Customs Union (CU) on issues such as the implementation of the CU protocol, including harmonisation of specific sector policies; tariff and non tariff issues; illicit trade, Rules of Origin and Standards, among others. The TIC is also involved in Common Market negotiations; through the Technical Team and the Secretariat.

Several TIC Sub-committees have been proposed to aid the TIC in its work. These include:

  • Sub-Committee on Services
  • Sub-Committee on Counterfeits
  • Sub-Committee on Labour & Employment

Interested EABC Members may join these sub-committees on voluntary basis.
